Emerson sales up 11 percent

Emerson reported net sales for the third quarter of $5.6 billion, an increase of 11 percent from the prior year quarter.

Sales in the U.S. increased 11 percent, while European sales gained 9 percent. Sales in Asia grew by 3 percent for the quarter. Earnings from continuing operations for the third quarter were $585 million, or 78 cents per share, increasing 53 percent compared with $387 million, or 51 cents per share, last year.

"Global markets continue to recover, at a slower pace than previous economic cycles, but in-line with our expectations. We expect this slow, but steady, recovery to continue for the next several years. We do not expect a double-dip recession in our end markets," said chairman, CEO and president David N. Farr.
